New Developer Support Portal

Hi Developers!

You might have noticed that we have been making changes here and there to the Intuit Developer site, hopefully for the better. The latest improvement we have made is to the Help section of the developer site – https://developer.intuit.com/help.

In the new Help section, we’ve combined the Support Tickets and the Developer Forums to make it easier for you to find answers and get help. We tried to bring a lot of requests together in one spot so you wouldn’t have to jump around to find something.

Here are some of the highlights of what the refreshed site has to offer:

Once you are logged in, you can:

  • “Ask A Question” in one of the Topic areas
  • Submit a Support Ticket
  • Join a Group and ask questions in it
  • Link quickly to the Services Dashboard to see if there are any systems problems reported
  • Request a feature
  • Find shortcuts to the sample code repository and sandboxes

In the Topics area, you have a lot of options as well. You can:

  • Look at Discussions (these are questions other developers have asked) and “Ask A Question” if you need to
  • Look at Articles (these are the common questions we get — the answer might already be there)
  • Follow a topic (you have to “follow” each topic and then select when you want to receive email about that topic)
  • Like a question, or if a question needs to be flagged, you have that option as well
  • Using the Sort By option, change the questions you see and/or the order that they are displayed in

Jumping over to the Support Tickets, you have a lot of options there as well.

  • Listing of all your support tickets, along with the option to sort by any of the columns.
  • Create a new support ticket.
  • When you select a support ticket, you see all the emails and comments made on the support ticket. You can still reply to the emails or add a comment to the ticket and the support ticket will get updated.
  • The biggest and most asked-for change is the ability to Close a support ticket by clicking a button. (YEAH!!!!)
  • You can re-open a support ticket from the website or just reply to the support ticket and it will re-open automatically.

As you can see, there are a lot of improvements happening to the developer support portal. We hope you like them. Let us know what you think in comments below!

Overall, I can’t say that I am that impressed with the new site. It doesn’t seem to do much that the old site didn’t do. Perhaps there’s better functionality with the Support Tickets as I don’t use that feature, but overall it seems like a new coat of paint that also makes things take longer, slower, and more complex than needed.

What’s the purpose of groups if users aren’t able to create groups? Right now there’s only three groups; Find a Developer, QuickBooks Connect 2016, and QuickBooks Online Product Training. As an Enterprise Desktop developer, none of these groups are of use to me. Where is a group that can discuss the Desktop SDK?

The new forums are much harder to navigate and use. Here’s a couple of things that I would like to see changed:
    1) When a post has a “Best Answer”, only the title of the discussion is shown along with a couple of lines of the Best Answer. However, the titles usually don’t have enough information to fully know if this is similar to my question or not so I have to click into the post to get any details. This leads me to my second and biggest issue:

    2) I can no longer open posts (or ‘discussions’) in a new tab. I am forced to use the same browser window. This makes it slower to move back and forth between the discussion list and the details of a discussion. Also, there is no way on the details of the post to go back to the discussion list. This means I have to use the back button of my browser. When I do that, I am taken back to the top of the discussion list along with all of the filters reset.

The new site does not appear to be designed around user functionality and makes it take longer and more steps to accomplish what the old site did. A lot of the features that are listed here were also available on the old forums. I was able to Look at Discussions, Filter, Search, as well as Flag. The Articles were also available before, but just in a different section.

Also, does this mean we’re going to lose all of the historical posts from the old site, or is everything getting migrated over? I know that Intuit doesn’t ever want to talk about Desktop SDK, but there’s a LOT of useful information in those forums with known bugs and workarounds.

Thanks for the comments. I will see if we can make any changes as you suggested.

Yes, we know about not being able to open questions in a new window and we are looking to see if there is a way to enable this.

A majority of the old content was imported in to the new site. Only a few of the newer posts have not been imported yet.

Hi Pranay, sorry to hear that. Can you tell me what errors do you get? I should be able to help you.
