I’m going to be honest. My goal today is to recruit developers like you into the wonderful world of Intuit. I know it’s wonderful because I’m actually an Intuit developer and have been for more than six years. With so many new developer jobs on the horizon (the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that employment of software developers will grow 21 percent from 2018 to 2028), you have options, and I believe Intuit should be a top consideration.
A day in the life of an Intuit developer
As a senior developer relations engineer, I work with internal and external development teams to build great integrations with QuickBooks Accounting and Payments APIs using the latest technologies. Specifically, I build libraries and sample codes for the API.
I collaborate closely with product development teams on prioritizing features, bugs, and requests for new samples. Most of the projects we do are a result of thorough analysis between me and the management team as to what the developers really need. I also have the privilege of writing blogs, delivering developer docs to enhance their integration experience, and building automations to manage and report on API health.
We adhere to the Agile methodology principles of teamwork; software creation; customer input; flexibility over process, documentation, contract negotiation; and a strict plan. This means I enjoy a creative work environment filled with developers working as a team to meet the needs of our customers as quickly and efficiently as possible.
This does not mean, however, that there aren’t any challenges. Every workplace has them. For me, the biggest challenges have been internal. Intuit is a dynamic company, and working with cross functional teams allows me to learn new things and practice my influencing skills.
These challenges have not gone unnoticed by Intuit. They’ve worked with me and my team to resolve them, including support on Slack and aligning me with senior engineers to help make decisions within the internal team.
