Small Business is Big Business for Developers at QuickBooks Connect

QuickBooks Connect is in less than two weeks and here at Intuit Developer, we are excited!

Compete for a Share of $100k

Our Hackathon kicks off on Sunday, November 1st, on what my team has dubbed the “Day of the Dev”. Whether you have an existing small business focused app you’d like to integrate with QuickBooks, or you are starting from scratch, join us to compete for your share of a prize purse that totals $100,000.

This year, the hackathon kicks off with a panel of small business owners and accountants who will talk about the pain points unique to their businesses, so you will surely be inspired to build a solution that addresses real problems. There will also be technical breakout sessions to help you get up to speed quickly and get busy coding. And of course there will be plenty of food and drink to fuel you, raffle prizes to motivate you, and support staff to keep you coding. We can’t guarantee you’ll get any sleep, but if you join one of our Friday hangouts on Oct 23 or Oct 30, you’ll get a chance to win your own tent and sleeping bag at the hack, to try to at least catch a nap.

Last week we announced the hackathon judges for the final competition. I hope you are as excited as I am to hear the questions they ask during the Pitch It session on Monday night. The prize winners will be announced on Tuesday morning on the main stage at QuickBooks Connect.

To inspire you, take a look at this video from last year’s hackathon:

Get Inspired, Learn, and Network

On Tuesday, the main day of the conference, I’m excited to kick off the developer break-out track with my talk, Get Your Head (and Your Code) in the Small Business Cloud.” As the small business cloud reaches the tipping point of mass adoption, developers have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to be first to market with innovative new solutions. I will be joined by Josh Reeves, co-founder and CEO of Gusto, industry analyst and commentator Ben Kepes, Emergent Research partner Steve King and other industry leaders to explain how to create game-changing applications for the small business ecosystem.

Your Choice of Technical or Business Sessions

After lunch, the developer track breaks into two sub-tracks to cover both technical and business content.

Developer Technical Track

In the technical track, we will let you know how to get started as well as give you a sneak peek into the exciting things we have on our roadmap. But more importantly, much of this session will focus on what interests you most – developing and publishing apps. You’ll also hear advice directly from fellow 3rd-party developers who have realized substantial success on the QuickBooks platform. Next, we’ll show you how Intuit builds integrations ourselves using the QuickBooks platform. Who knew eating your own dog food could taste so good!?!?

Developer Business Track

In the business track, you’ll hear from a panel of awesome small businesses that have found success using an app (or two!) with QuickBooks that have made running their business that much easier. Learn the qualities they look for in an app, how they find apps, and how you can build a better app that suits your customers needs. Next, you’ll hear from a panel of successful developers who will share best practices from a budding idea to successful app launch. You’ll learn tangible tips for marketing your app to our 1M+ QuickBooks users.

Connect and Network with Other Developers and Potential Customers

You’ll also have the opportunity to connect (pun intended!) not only with other developers, but with your potential customers – small businesses and accountants. With thousands of prospective customers all in one place, this is an event you don’t want to miss!

Register now now and I’ll see you in November!

Have questions or comments? Please share them on our developer forums.
